VINTAGE 1940S CATALINA POTTERYPEASANT HEAD VASE C801
Available for purchase is a collectible porcelain Catalina Pottery head vase
made by Gladding, McBean & Company of Los Angeles, California during the 1940's. Catalina Pottery was originally produced by the Catalina Clay Products Company on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of California during the 1930's, but the company was sold to Gladding McBean in 1937. This particular vase was designed by Dorr Bothman and patented in 1939. It depicts a "peasant woman" in a scarf with her hands cupped next to her head. This vase was produced in numerous color and paint combinations.
This peasant vase stands about 6 3/4" tall and measures approximately 5 3/4" wide. The color is ivory white with an attractive hand-painted floral design on the scarf. The underside of the base has the impressed markings "CATALINA POTTERY" with the mold number "C 801". Amazingly, the original label is still attached that reads "C-801" and "U.S. Pat. No. 114804". I purchased this head vase at a recent estate sale.
Condition of this Catalina Pottery head vase is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, fleabites, or crazing. It was obviously well cared for. This vintage head vase looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase!
