Handsome large-format fold-out 1957 map of Europe, printed more than 64 years ago.The map opens to a generous 84 x 73.5 cm [33" x 29"] and is drawn on a scale of 1:6,000,000, which provides wonderful detail, including railroads, highways, canals, oil pipe lines, and more.
It was published during the height of the Cold War, one year after the Hungarian Revolution and four months before the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1.
The map was compiled under the direction of cartographer James M. Darley of the National Geographic Society and published as a supplement to the June 1957
