1920's Circus Promo Photo- "Happy Dot" Fat Lady in Sideshow, Weight- 602 Lbs. Unfortunately we don't know much about Happy Dot, where she comes from, or what circus she worked for. We do know that a high weight was a badge of honor among the sideshow performers, and it was a way to make a living, especially during the Depression. This is a photo mechanical, meaning Dot had reproductions made to give out to her adoring fans. It is signed at the top in her handwriting. It is in good to very good condition, printed on a nice heavy photo paper. No curling. The surface and edges are clean and strong, and the corners are only mildly bumped. Mld soiling in back, also the number "#390." Please see all of the photos above to confirm the contents and condition of this item.

Rare and original "1920's Circus Promo Photo- "Happy Dot" Fat Lady in Sideshow, Weight: 602 Lbs."  The Photograph measures approx. 7” x 4-1/2” (17.4 cm. x 11.4 cm.).  We dated this photo based on her shoes (and not her underwear.)   My Grandmother wore shoes like that in the 1920's.
Unfortunately we don't know much more about "Happy Dot," where she comes from, or what Circus she worked for.   We do know that a high weight was a badge of honor among the sideshow performers.   And the
y competed against each other to see who could achieve the highest weight.  It was often over-exaggerated.   It's not exactly a healthy lifestyle though.  But that was a different time.   And being a "fat lady in a circus was the only way some people had to make a living, especially during the Depression.
This is a photo mechanical, meaning that Dot had reproductions made to give out to her adoring fans.   It is signed at the top in her handwriting.   It is in good to very good condition, printed on a nice heavy photo paper.   No curling.   The surface and edges are clean and strong, and the corners are only mildly bumped.   The back has some mild soiling, and also the number "#390."
